The National News and World News

National News

A national story is one that deals with matters of interest to the entire population of a nation. This type of news includes stories about the government, major events (such as wars), the economy and other subjects that are important to the whole country. National news is not to be confused with world news, which focuses on international issues and developments.

World news, also called foreign news, is the jargon used in the media to refer to news stories that come from abroad or about a global subject. This can include coverage of wars, or it can be about issues that are of direct interest to belligerent countries such as multilateral summits. World news can be filed by foreign correspondents (full-time reporters stationed abroad) or — more often these days — by news agencies.
