In an era of increasingly advanced space exploration, the discovery of new planets is a major highlight for scientists and astronomers around the world. With advanced telescope technology such as the Hubble Space Telescope and the James Webb Space Telescope, many exoplanets have been identified in our galaxy, waiting to be explored. These planets not only attract attention because of their long distances, but also because of their potential for exploration and the possibility of life. One of the interesting discoveries is TOI-700 d, a planet located in the habitable zone of the dwarf star TOI-700, which is about 100 light years from Earth. TOI-700 d may have temperatures that support the existence of liquid water, making it an ideal candidate for the search for extraterrestrial life. Further research is needed to understand the atmosphere and surface conditions of the planet. Apart from TOI-700 d, there is also Kepler-186f, known as “Earth’s cousin” because of its similar size and position to Earth. Located about 500 light years from Earth, Kepler-186f experiences a year of similar duration to an Earth year. This discovery opens up the opportunity to identify other planets in the same system, which may have similar characteristics. We also can’t miss planets like LHS 1140 b, which is located about 40 light years from Earth. The planet is in the habitable zone and has enough mass to maintain an atmosphere, giving scientists the opportunity to study possible signs of life. Early research suggests that LHS 1140 b may have an atmosphere rich in oxygen and water vapor. Looking further, the TRAPPIST-1 star system holds seven planets, three of which are in the habitable zone. TRAPPIST-1 e and f are prime targets because of their potential to support life as well as the presence of liquid water. An in-depth study of the atmospheric composition of these planets would be of great interest to scientists. The involvement of space missions such as the Mars 2020 mission and recent missions to Europa and Titan also provides an insight into how the discovery of new planets could impact our understanding of life beyond Earth. Investigation of these icy satellites could offer insight into potential life forms within their atmospheres. In the future, new technology is expected to be able to detect even smaller and more distant exoplanets, as well as observe the characteristics of their atmospheres. Additionally, projects such as the Habitable Worlds Space Telescope and interstellar mission architecture could open up further opportunities to understand conditions in space. With so many new planets waiting to be explored, challenges and opportunities arise. The development of colonies in space and human exploration of these planets could become a reality. All of these discoveries create hope and excitement for future generations of astronomers and scientists. Continued research will deepen our insight into the universe and perhaps find answers to the most basic question: are we alone in the universe?
