World news, also known as international or foreign news, is a broad term for news related to a global subject. In journalism, it is usually defined as news from abroad sent by a journalist to a newspaper or broadcaster. It is one of the most common types of news reporting, and it includes a variety of subfields such as war news (although this can also be classified as national for belligerent countries), economic news, or political news.
World News Now (or WNN) is an American overnight news program formerly shown on ABC television. It was produced at a studio in Boca Raton, Florida, and taped Monday through Friday mornings for airing on local ABC stations across the United States. The show is also available in a tape-delayed loop on ABC’s digital cable news channel, Good Morning America First Look. It is a spin-off of the former ABC World News Tonight and was launched in 1979 by Generoso Pope Jr. to continue the legacy of his sister tabloid, The National Enquirer, which had been printed in black and white.
WWN’s tone is often lighthearted and irreverent. Typical topics include new Bible-related findings, such as relics from Noah’s Ark, the Garden of Eden (which the tabloid claimed to be in Colorado), and sandals worn by Jesus. Other articles reported that natural disasters and human economic activity such as drilling for oil have opened portals from Hell, where demons wreak havoc on the earth. Various “wonders of nature” are also frequently reported, including mermen and mermaids.
