Astrobiology is a branch of science that studies life outside Earth, including the search for and understanding life on other planets and exoplanets. Additionally, AI-based tools are increasingly being used to analyze big data generated by space missions, improving our ability to detect signs of life. Mars missions, like the Perseverance Rover, aim to search for signs of microbial life in the Red Planet’s past. The discovery of lichens and water-bearing minerals suggests that Mars once had conditions that supported life. Further research on the Curiosity Rover also showed the presence of organic compounds that could be related to life. Outside our solar system, the discovery of Earth-like exoplanets in the habitable zone also has the potential to answer questions about life. These planets are indicated to have conditions that allow water to exist in liquid form, which is essential for life as we know it. Antarctica is also a site of exciting astrobiology research, where researchers have discovered life in frozen icy environments, offering a model for the possibility of life on Europa’s ice. Earth-like geological and atmospheric features also provide valuable information about collections of organic materials that could fuel life. Overall, new discoveries in astrobiology continue to provide hope and inspiration for the search for life beyond Earth. With advances in technology, our understanding also expands, making this an increasingly exciting field to explore further in the coming decades.
